Still is a new work for viola, trombone, tenor sax, electric guitar, and percussion commissioned by Levels from Appleton, Wisconsin. It was premiered on April 20, 2016 and will be the title track of Levels’ upcoming album.
Update: Still is now available for purchase and streaming via Bandcamp
Earlier this year, Wisconsin-based new and improvised music ensemble Levels commissioned Still. The meditative piece blends tightly-composed guitar- and vibraphone-based minimalism with free improvisation and spacious silence. Still imagines a separation between the body and the self, both suspended like objects tossed into the air. Still was premiered in April.
Still became the title track of their first full-length album, which also features commissioned music by Andrew Seager Cole, Nolan Veldey, Christian Carroll, Evan Williams, and Jason Koth.
The album can be streamed in its entirety here and is available for purchase via Bandcamp.
