Evenweave

for FLUTE, ELECTRONICS, and AERIAL DANCER

Evenweave is inspired by the fabric (silk) used in aerial dancing. The silk is the support structure that makes aerial dance possible, and also a material that the dancer can expressively manipulate. It is is tightly woven and strong, and the dancer can weave herself into the fabric while in the air, becoming a kind of thread in a tapestry. Evenweave is named after a type of cloth used in embroidery where, as in aerial dance, it is both the substrate and the material of an art work. Evenweave explores the relationship between individual threads and a whole cloth, as well as the relationship between the aerial dancer and her silk.
